Abib Ngom and Natalie Chan Black Legal Scholar Award
Abib Ngom is a family lawyer and Managing Partner of YLaw Group in Vancouver. His career path began in Montreal where his interest in politics, governance, and justice led him to pursue a career in law. Abib has been in practice for 10 years and he has a particular interest in the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction cases. He is also a member of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.
Dr. Natalie Chan is a Family Physician in Vancouver and the Co-Founder/President of Be the Change Group Inc. Her career began in community service within the HIV/AIDS community both globally and locally. Her experience working with individuals and communities facing systemic barriers and significant health inequities was and still is the driving force behind her work, both in clinical practice and in business. She is also a 2019 Business in Vancouver Top 40 under 40 award winner and the recipient of the 2022 RBC Women of Influence Social Change: National Impact Award.
The ³Ô¹ÏÍø Faculty of Law has undertaken significant initiatives to promote and ensure a diverse student body. Abib and Natalie were impressed by the result of these efforts translating to an increased number of black law students. They wish to support and uplift individuals who have overcome challenges and barriers to reach their goals. This award is meant to recognize students who demonstrate resilience, tenacity, dedication, and the desire to create positive change in their communities.
