Bio

Dr. Peter Gölz studied German and English literature at the University of Mannheim and the University of Sussex. He completed his MA at the University of Waterloo and his PhD at Queen's University. Peter’s publications include articles on German literature, German film, cyberpunk, humor ³Ô¹ÏÍø, CALL, and vampire ³Ô¹ÏÍø. Peter served as Chair of the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies for 10 years, and with the support of UVic’s Innovation and Development Corporation, he founded HyperEdvantage Language Services. He received the University of Waterloo Arts in Academia Award for outstanding contribution to academics, and he served as President of the Canadian Association of University Teachers of German. Without interruption, Peter taught his favorite course, the “Cultural History of Vampires in Literature and Film,” for 22 years and the course often attracted 300 students. Peter retired in 2024 after 32 years at UVic, and he is looking forward to giving talks about his favorite subject, to play guitar every day, and to improve his cooking skills.
