UVic graduate students attending Graduate Student Orientation

The Faculty of Graduate Studies and the   welcome new graduate students on Friday, August 29, with a three-part event starting with info sessions, a campus tour and wrapping up with snacks and mingling at the Grad House.

This event is for all new graduate students.

Program

Programming starts in the Hickman Building, HHB 105.

HHB 105 9:00 a.m.	Graduate Student Welcome Greeting and info sharing for incoming graduate students.
HHB 105 9:15 a.m.	Introduction to the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) Learn about services and supports for graduate students.
HHB 105 9:45 a.m.	Introduction to the Graduate Student Society Learn about the GSS and how to connect with the graduate community on campus.
HHB 105 10:00 a.m.	The Graduate-Supervision Relationship Hear about the shared experiences, tips and lessons learned by working with an academic supervisor.
HHB 105 10:15 a.m.	Federal Research Scholarship Information Learn how to apply, the dates for upcoming workshops, and resources to help you. Doctoral level federal scholarships INSERC, SSHRC, CIHR) are now open to international students.
HHB 105 10:30 – 12:00 p.m.	Campus Tours Tour Guides will arrive to lead students on a 90-minute campus tour.
Grad House (Halpern Centre for Graduate Students) 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.	Welcome to the Grad House The campus tour will conclude at the Grad House where appetizers and cold drinks will be available. Students who opted out of the info session or campus tour are welcome to join – come to the Grad House in the Halpern Centre for Graduate Students at 12:00.
