Fall 2025

The Math & Stats Assistance Centre (MSAC) tutors will be available to support you in your summer courses starting on Monday, September 8. Drop-in tutoring will be available through the December exam period. Details are below.

Self-paced review materials are available on the Math & Stats Assistance Centre 2025/26 .

Collaborative study space

The Betty & Gilbert Kennedy Math & Stats Assistance Centre is located in ELL 165. The room will be usually open for collaborative study from 9:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday. 

Tutors on duty

September 8th - December 3rd, 2025

The Math & Stats Assistance Centre tutors will be available for drop-in tutoring starting in the second week of the term (Monday, September 8th, 2025). Although you can ask about any 1st- or 2nd-year math course at any time, we have a schedule by course so you know when at least one tutor is very comfortable supporting your class, which will be posted in early September.

Our Fall 2025 schedule is still in development, but we expect to have tutors available for in-person tutoring at the following times.

  • Mondays & Thursdays:
    • 11:30am-3:30pm in ELL 165
    • 3:30 - 5:30pm in Library 129
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays:
    • 9:30am - 3:30pm in ELL 165
    • 3:30-7:30pm PT: Library 129
  • Sundays:
    • 1:30-5:30pm PT: Library 129

The Math & Stats Assistance Centre will be closed on Tuesday, September 30th (Truth and Reconciliation Day), Sunday, Oct 12th and Monday, Oct 13th (Thanksgiving), Sunday, Nov 9th through Wednesday, Nov 12th (Reading Break), and 11:30am-12:30pm Dec 3rd (National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women).

If you are unable to come to campus and would like to meet with a tutor through Zoom during our open hours, please contact Josh, MSAC program coordinator, msacpc@uvic.ca. You can expect a reply within 4 hours during working hours (9:30am - 4:30pm Mondays to Fridays) or on the following working day.

Exam Period

We will have a special exam period schedule, which will be posted in November.

Workshops

The Math & Stats Assistance Centre will be offering 3 workshops this term. All will involve a brief discusssion of the scholarly work on the topic, practical tips you can implement in your studying this term, and group activities to put advice into action right away. 

  • Making Notes and Optimizing Math & Stats Class Time: Time and date to be determined.
  • Triumphing over Math Anxiety: Time and date to be determined.

  • Succeeding on Math & Stats Tests: Time and date to be determined.

If you cannot attend because of the scheduling please express interest to msacpc@uvic.ca in planning a session at another time. 

Review your last course

Are you taking a 100- or 200-level MATH or STAT course this Fall? Do you want to brush up on your last math course first? The Math & Stats Assistance Centre has a suite of self-paced review materials to support you! To access these materials, please .

The Math & Stats Assistance Centre tutors will be available for drop-in tutoring at the following times.

  • Mondays 12:30 - 2:30pm
  • Tuesdays 3:30 - 5:30pm
  • Thursdays 3:30 - 5:30pm
  • Fridays, 12:30-2:30pm

Please note that we will be closed on: May 19 (Victoria Day), Jun 30 (Reading Break), Jul 1 (Canada Day), and Aug 4 (B.C. Day).

A modified schedule has been posted for the exam period Aug 5th - 15th.

The Math & Stats Assistance Centre will be closed on from 1:30pm on Friday, Feb 14th until Friday, Feb 21st for reading break. We will reopen at 2:30pm on Sunday, Feb 23rd.

Exam Period

We will have a special schedule for the exam period, April 5th to 25th (closed on April 18th for Good Friday and April 21st for Easter Monday), which will be posted in early April.

The Math & Stats Assistance Centre will be offering three workshops this term. All will involve a brief discusssion of the scholarly work on the topic, practical tips you can implement in your studying this term, and group activities to put advice into action so you can improve your performance this term.   • Making Notes and Optimizing Math & Stats Class Time: Wed, Jan 22nd, 4:30-5:20pm in LIBR 025. This workshop will make you think about your classes in a different way so that you can go from note-taking to note-making. This will help you get more value from time spent in class so you can avoid unnecessary repetition and spend less time studying outside of class. 

Register: 

  • Triumphing Over Math Anxiety: Wed, Jan 29th, 4:30-5:20pm in LIBR 025. The goal of this workshop is to help you understand the causes and consequences of math anxiety. We will help you understand the root causes of your anxiety so you can both minimize the amount of stress you feel and execute better when you are feeling anxious.  

Register: 

  • Succeeding on Math & Stats Tests: Wed, Feb 5th, 4:30-5:30pm in LIBR 025. We will discuss the ways that math and stats tests are similar to those in other disciplines, and the ways they are different. You will learn how to improve your performance through better preparation, making good choices during a test, and learning from your mistakes.

The Learning Commons (Mearns Centre for Learning - McPherson Library) is our second location. Find us in Room 129, on the main floor of the McPherson Library.
