Academic accommodations

The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) assigns academic accommodations to students with a disability or chronic health issue to ensure equal access to education at UVic.

A student's accommodations are listed on their accommodation letter, and details about the academic accommodations instructors ask about most frequently are below.

Contact your student's CAL advisor if an accommodation is not listed, or if you have other questions.

Assignment accommodations

Assignment extensions

An assignment extensions accommodation allows a student to occasionally negotiate an assignment due date for reasons related to disability or chronic health.

Exam accommodations

Distraction-reduced environment for exams

A distraction-reduced environment accommodation allows a student to write timed exams in a less distracting space.

Exam frequency restrictions

An exam frequency restriction accommodation limits how many exams a student can write in a time interval.

Extended time for quizzes, tests and exams

An extended time for quizzes, tests and exams accommodation allows a student more time for all exam-like assessments.

Extra paper for exams

An extra paper for exams accommodation allows a student to use more paper than the provided booklet or other materials.

Five-function calculator for exams

A five-function calculator accommodation allows a student to use a five-function calculator (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and exponentiation) during exams.

Memory aid for exams

Supervised breaks during exams
